- Located on the beautiful Lake Huron, Alpena Michigan is a charming turn of the century community. It's rich heritage dates back to the early lumbering years of the 1850's. Its diverse industrial base of cement, wood, and paper products have built this community into a thriving business center nestled in northeastern Michigan. Along with commerce and industry, the area enjoys some of the best salmon, lake trout and brown trout fishing, as well as sport diving on the largest concentration of ship wrecks in the great lakes. The Alpena area features sandy beaches for lounging in the sun, charters for fishing as well as scuba diving. Alpena is the hub for the Michigan Lighthouse Festival, with the Presque Isle light houses and light house museum just a short scenic drive. All this together with Alpena General Hospital which is a regional health care center combine to make Alpena Michigan a wonderful place to visit.
